We are not a slab supplier, so we can be impartial: guidance on choosing granite at local stone yards, reading slabs and avoiding surprises.
Choosing a slab is the most personal part of a granite project and the one with the most surprises. A small sample can look nothing like the full slab, and two slabs with the same name can look very different. Because we are an installation company and do not carry slab inventory, we have no reason to push one stone over another. We help you visit local stone yards, understand what you are looking at and pick a slab you will still love ten years from now.
On a stone yard visit we help you read the slab: the movement of the pattern, the mix of colors, any fissures, resin fills or color variation, and how the stone will lay out on your cabinets. We bring your measurements, discuss which slabs will give you the best yield and plan where seams might fall. You choose the stone, and then we coordinate the fabrication and installation.
We do not sell slabs, so our only interest is that you choose a stone that works for your kitchen and your budget.
Pattern movement, fissures, resin fill and color range all show on the full slab. We explain what is normal and what to watch for.
The way the slab will lay out on your cabinets affects waste, seams and cost. We use your measurements to guide the choice.
Stone looks different in a yard and in your kitchen. We recommend sample checks at home with your cabinets and light.
