Shimming, leveling and adding support to cabinets so they can carry heavy stone safely and the new top sits flat.
Granite is heavy, and heavy things expose weak cabinets. A slab on cabinets that are not level can rock, crack at stress points or leave gaps along the wall. Older cabinets may sag, have loose joints or lack support in the middle. In Nashville homes with settled floors and older kitchens, checking and correcting the cabinet base is one of the most important steps before stone goes on.
We check each run with a long level, look at the strength of the face frames and corners and see whether the cabinets are securely attached to the wall and to each other. We shim low spots, add support strips or plywood where tops need more bearing, and reinforce spans over dishwashers and sinks. If the cabinets are in poor shape, we explain the options, which may include replacing a section or adding supports. We also show you what we find, so the reasons for any shimming or support are clear.
A long level across each run shows high and low points that would make the stone rock or crack.
Low cabinets are shimmed and fastened so the top surface is flat and stable.
Spans, dishwasher openings and overhangs may need extra support strips or brackets.
If a cabinet is badly damaged or water-stained, we explain whether repair or replacement makes sense.

You tell us about your counters and what you want to change, from a repair to a whole-kitchen install, and we set a visit that fits your day.
We visit, measure, check the cabinets, walls and plumbing and talk through stone, edges, seams and sinks.
We help you choose a slab at local stone yards, plan the layout and give you an itemized written estimate with options.
Once cabinets are set and level, we template the real room, confirm cutouts and seams and send the plan to fabrication.
The stone is cut and polished, old counters are removed and the new granite is carried in, set, seamed and sealed.
We walk the finished counters with you, explain care, run the water test and leave the space clean.
Usually yes if they are sound and level. We check and add support where needed.
Thin slabs often need plywood or support strips. Thicker slabs may not. We advise.
We shim the cabinets so the top is level, which is more important than the floor.
We can repair or replace sections, or refer you to a cabinet professional.
