How the three most popular countertop stones compare on durability, care, look and heat, with honest tradeoffs for each.
Most homeowners shopping for stone counters end up comparing the same three materials. Granite is natural, hard and heat resistant, with a pattern that is never repeated. Quartz is engineered from crushed quartz and resin, so it is consistent, non-porous and low maintenance. Marble is natural and soft, with an elegant veining that is unmatched but that etches and stains more easily. None is universally best, and in Nashville, where kitchens range from busy family hubs to showpiece entertaining spaces, the right answer depends on how you live.
We are an installation company, so we have no stake in which one you pick. We install all three and have seen how each performs over years. Granite handles hot pans and scratches well and needs occasional sealing. Quartz needs no sealing, but heat can damage the resin and outdoor sun can fade it. Marble needs the most care but rewards you with a classic beauty. We help you compare samples side by side in your own light.
